Breast implant massage

I don’t have implants, so maybe I shouldn’t talk about breast implant massage, I’m not an expert. However, I’ve read quite a bit just to see how it compares to regular breast massage. Tell you this. It is totally different and has a different purpose.

You do breast implant massage to avoid capsular contracture. This is a funky name for access scar tissues that forms around the implant and squeezes the implant. Once this occurs the breast will feel and look very hard like a balloon. And it can hurt a lot!

So, breast implant massage supposed to avoid that. During surgery your doctor creates a breast pocket for the implant. I couldn’t really visualize what that means so I searched some on you tube. This video shows how the breast pocket is created and the implant is placed.

I think the procedure is very interesting. Watching this video made me sure again that I will not get implant. I think the most disgusting thing was how that plastic bag was stuffed in… Yuck. SO fake!

But back to breast massage. What I've read is that normally the surgeon creates quite a big breast pocket and after it is done places the implant in. So actually you should have plenty of room to move your implant around. This is needed to create a natural look.

After surgery the massage is necessary to keep the breast pocket open and to avoid capsular contracture. Every 2-3 hours the breast implant should be moved around/massaged in the breast pocket for 30 minutes. A technician or your doctor will do it at the first time and teach you how to do it properly.

Supposedly massaging (moving around in the pocket) your breast implant will guarantee the natural look after healing and will help to avoid too much scar tissues to form around your breasts.

However, while some doctors make it mandatory to massage post surgery, some don’t want you to do it all. It is your responsibility to ask your doctor what you should do and why. It is your interest to follow his/her advice that way if something happens you cannot be held responsible
