Can you really afford breast enlargement surgery?

The true costs of plastic surgery assuming average prices:

Initial costs of plastic surgery: $5000
At least one more surgery in your lifetime: $5000 plus inflation.
Additional surgeries due to being unsatisfied or leakage or body rejection of implants: min. $5000.

Unable to work during recovery time: $2000/month assuming an average wage.
+ Loss of insurance for breast health care.

Explanation:

I can always hear women saying that happiness is priceless. And the $5000 to pay for feeling confident and happy is nothing and / or it is a very small price to pay.

But are you sure that this is how much the average costs of plastic surgery is?

I think nowadays 95% of women are very careful and do their homework to pick a reputable surgeon; they go through the details during consultation.

They get a price for their breast augmentation, which averages between $5000 - $7000 and depends upon the area you live. This price should include the implants, the consultation fee, the surgeon fee, the anesthesiologist and the hospital stay. Many women make a mistake here, thinking that the costs of plastic surgery for breast augmentation ends there.

But breast implants are not forever!

Yes, there are lucky ladies who have had their implants for more than 10 years but most women are not that fortunate. The reality is that you will probably need to have at least one more plastic surgery in your lifetime.

If you are in your 20’s now, then that can happen as soon as your early 30’s. Probably this will be the time when you want to start a family, and you will want to put down your savings to buy your first house. Will you be ready to fork out another $5000 then? And let’s not count with inflation right now… And you will not be able to postpone this second surgery because your health will depend on it!

If you do breast augmentation before you have children, you will need another surgery plus a breast lift after you have finished nursing. That is always more expensive than the original breast enlargement surgery. Wouldn’t you rather put that money toward your child’s college education fund?

And here are the worst-case scenarios:

Browse through breast plastic surgery forums and you will read many of these types of comments, "Oh I wish I would have gone a size bigger…" "Oh I wish I would have gone a size smaller…" Remember, these ladies will end up having another surgery because they are still not happy. That is another $5000.

If you decide to go with saline implants, you will notice right away if the implants rupture. And they do. Sooner or later. Your beautiful round breast will disappear. So you need to fix that for $5000.

What if you put silicone implants in? Yes, probably they won’t rupture, or at least the likelihood is very small. However, a good plastic surgeon will advise to do a yearly MRI checkup.

Only a MRI can show indications of small amounts of leakage. And you want to be kind to yourself because unremoved silicone can hurt you! You want to get that done, which will cost you $2000/MRI. Insurance will not cover that.

If your implants rupture, then the removal of the implants and the silicon from your body will cost more than just the augmentation surgery.

Also you will loose your insurance coverage for later breast check ups in your life. God forbid if you will find some lumps that will need to be removed later in life, and you will not be covered! So is it really worth it?

How about recovery time? Who will pay for that?

If you work in an office and you are doing administration type work, no big deal, you can get back to work almost immediately. But how about if you are a beautician, hairdresser, waitress etc. and you need to lift your hands and lift heavier objects? Your doctor will say that you will need to wait around 4-6 weeks to get back to work. Are you ready for not making money for that time?

How about if you are a mother of a toddler? You will not be able to pick your sweetie up for a long time. Is your family there to help or can you afford a babysitter almost non-stop?

All I want to point out is that the costs of plastic surgery for breast augmentation is a lot more complex than paying $5000.

If you add all, these are the numbers you really need to think about:

Total costs of plastic surgery: $10000+ for a best-case scenario OR $17000+ for a worst-case scenario PLUS the yearly $2000 fee for the MRI for both cases for life or until the removal of implants. Plus loosing insurance.

So that is it. You decide! If you KNOW you can afford breast augmentation, go for it. If you THINK you can afford it, think twice.
