Fenugreek is a very popular plant in India and in Middle Eastern countries. Even Western countries use fenugreek as a spice since it is one of the main ingredients for curry powder. Just like chamomile in Europe, fenugreek was used in India to heal "everything" back in the old days.
What are the real benefits of fenugreek?
Fenugreek breastfeeding
Fenugreek is widely used for helping mothers during the first days of breastfeeding. Fenugreek helps increase milk flow. Mothers can either take fenugreek seed extracts, fenugreek capsules or drink fenugreek seed tea. Fenugreek tea has a pretty bitter taste and can be hard on the stomach. Fenugreek is only recommended during the first week after a baby is born. Once the milk flow is established there is no use to take more fenugreek pills.
Fenugreek for breast enlargement
Bad news. No scientific research to-date has been done to show that fenugreek will increase breast size. However, fenugreek is a main ingredient in all the breast enlargement pills due to the fact that it contains phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens have an effect on our hormones and it is believed that it will stimulate breast growth. Many women have reported growth despite the lack of scientific research.
Since there is no scientific research on fenugreek, you need to approach it as if you are conducting your own trial. Fenugreek is definitely not poisonous but like everything it can have side effects.
You can try to use breast enlargement pills, which contain fenugreek or use your own combination of herbs for trying to increase your breasts.
Fenugreek capsules
If you take fenugreek do not exceed 5000mg per day. To be effective you need to take at least 3000 mg per day.
When you buy fenugreek at online stores the serving size will normally be 2 pills, containing 1.22 grams of fenugreek. Doing a little math 1.22 grams = 1220 mg.
The recommended amount to take is 3 servings (morning, lunch, night) a day, which is 3X1220mg = 3660 mg. This way you will be taking the correct dosage.
If you look at the ingredients of breast enhancement pills
and you follow the amount they are suggesting, the maximum fenugreek you will take is 1600 mg per day. According to herbalists you need to take at least 3000 mg per day to see any results. So, take it into consideration before buying the pre-made breast enlarger pills.
Herbalists say do not take fenugreek pills for more than 12 weeks at once.
Fenugreek seed extract
Herb extract means that the dried or fresh herb is combined with water or alcohol. You can get the same benefit from liquid extract drops as you can from capsules. Look for low water/alcohol herb ratios.
Whole fenugreek seed for tea or breast compress
You can soak seeds overnight in fresh clean water. Make sure you have enough water to cover the seeds. Next day remove the seeds and warm the water to drink it as a tea.It will have a bitter taste.
If you don’t want to drink tea, you can soak 2 small towels into the lukewarm tea and apply it to your breasts after massaging. Leave it on for 15 minutes.
Fenugreek sprouts for sandwiches or salads
Fenugreek sprouts are very delicious and healthy little plants to eat. You can sprout your own. All you need is fenugreek seeds, water, light and room temperature. Fenugreek seeds should not be hard to find. Look for them at your local herbal store, Indian store or the whole food section at your local grocery store.
Fenugreek sprouting
Soak seeds in water overnight for at least 8 hours. The next morning rinse them well and transfer them to a sprouting tray. You will find sprouting trays at big supermarkets in the gardening aisle. Follow instructions. But basically you just need to sprinkle seeds on tray.
Seeds need plenty of lights to grow. Fluorescent kitchen lights are perfect for sprouting. Room temperature should be in the upper 70’s Farenheit. Watch them grow. It is a lot of fun, since they grow quite fast. Sprouting takes about 5 days.
When they sprout, taste them! When you like the taste, harvest.
Mix it with salads, put sprouts on sandwich meats. Either way, they are very delicious, healthy and contain lots of phytoestrogens.
Fenugreek side effects
Very important. Almost all breast enhancement pills are marketed that there is no side effects of using those pills. It's simply just not true. All herbs have side effects.
Do not take fenugreek if you are:
Pregnant or nursing, (you can use fenugreek only the first week after giving birth to increase milk flow.) Diabetic, Have peanut allergy, Have bleeding ot blood clotting disorder or Asthma.
Watch out for side effects like: gas, dizziness,
diarrhea, headache.
If you take any medication ask your doctor whether it will interfere. Urine can smell like maple syrup. If so, do not increase dose.
