Pregnancy breast care

Once you know you are pregnant you might ask whether you need any special pregnancy breast care.

Well, not really. But it is good to know what to expect. Here are some pregnancy symptoms for your breast and things to watch out for:

Sore breasts during pregnancy

Your breasts probably will get sore and sensitive to touch. This is normal! The reason is because your milk glands are growing. All that growing and stretching will make you more sensitive. Warm shower will ease your pain.

How large breast grow during pregnancy?

pregnancy breast growth If you have small breasts, you will love this. It is very possible that you can go from an A cup to a C cup. That is great, isn’t it?

The only problem is that it is only temporary. You grow because you increase your milk storage capacity, your mammary glands mature. Once you done with nursing, your milk glands will shrink back and you will return to you size. There can be one exception. If you put on extra weight and some fat gets stored in your breasts. Enjoy this time in your life! Enjoy your curves!

Also your ribcage expends during pregnancy, so you might experience that not just your cup size will change but also your band size.

Pregnancy leaking breast

It is normal. It happens especially in the third trimester even if you have small breasts. On the top of your nipple you can notice a yellowish or clear discharge. Sometimes you will notice right as it is coming out or sometimes it can be already dried on your nipple. I would suggest to mention it to your doctor at your next visit but most of the time it is a very normal thing.

Your milk glands start to produce colostrum (my nurse called it the "liquid gold") this is what your baby gets at the very first time she or he latches on. Colostrum is a concentrated "energy bomb" contains all the proteins, vitamins your baby needs.

So don’t be scared if you see leakage while you pregnant. It is not a sign of cancer. Breast cancer during pregnancy is very rare. If you still worried and have any bad feelings ask your doctor.

Hypoplastic breast

In rare cases your will not develop enough milk glands. To begin with your breasts are not just small but they have a tubular shape. They are very narrow and tend to sag. You might not experiencing any growth.

It is a standard question from your doctor to ask whether your breasts sore or not. If they sore that is normal and "good". If you don’t and you are growing, well, you are lucky. Also it is possible that you don’t sore and don’t experience any growth and you still be able to breastfeed. It is something you should mention to your doctor if you don’t experience any growth and you have very narrow breasts.

Some women with this condition are not able to nurse or only partially. It is a medical condition and if you have it, don’t blame yourself that you are doing something wrong. A lactation consultant and a doctor will be able to help you! Don’t be afraid to ask!

Inverted nipples

Inverted nipples are fairly common among women with small breasts. It is not a medical condition if you have at them all the time. However if your nipples were pointing out and suddenly you notice that they turning inside that can raise concerns and need to be evaluated by a doctor.

During pregnancy, nipples tends to turn out more. If they still turned inside you might have a problem or will take more effort to breastfeed. Your baby will have not too much to grab onto but it is something you can change. There are soft shells for inverted nipples you can buy. By putting the shells on, they will help you "training them". Also if you pump before breastfeeding for a couple of minutes, it will help your areola and nipples to stick out more. A lactation consultant will be able to help you out.

Should you pick and pull your nipples while pregnant?

Best if not. Too much stimulation can make your uterus contract and in rare cases can cause labor. It can be especially dangerous for high risk pregnancies.

Regular breast care during pregnancy

You don’t really need to do more than use warm water and shower gel to wash. Try not to use soap that can dry your skin out.

Breast stretch marks

Pregnancy belly stretch marks If you put on weight fast or you just have a tendency or dry skin , you can get stretch marks on breast and not just on your belly. Good news for small breasted women: they don’t get them too often.

Once you have them it is hard to get rid of them. With time they will fade. Also there are creams you can buy to help fading. So the best thing you can do and you should do is prevention!

Use lotion after bath regularly. Lotions containing aloe vera, coconut or vitamin E are great. Use them regularly and also don’t forget to drink enough water! Keeping hydrated is essential.
