Guide for parents about training bras

Training bra guide for teens.

First of all congratulations for watching out for your girl and thinking about getting her a training bra!

If you are looking for some info on training bras or how to approach her, you must be a caring person.

Despite all your caring, you can run into some, "Mom! Stop it!" statements when you want to give some advice to your young girl. You were a teen once and you know this is perfectly normal. Still, it is much better to approach her, than to let her figure things out on her own.

Just like everybody, young girls really appreciating straight grown up talk.

Once you see her breasts forming you can casually ask her what she thinks about bras. You don’t need to recommend a bra for her just yet, but you can guide her thoughts towards the idea of a bra. Ask her whether her girlfriends have one or anybody at school has one and what does she thinks about it. Breast forming starts as early as age 8. It can feel pretty strange at such a young age that her body has started to change.

If your girl starts developing early and fast, you really need to watch out for her feelings. Boys, but even girls, can be so cruel. Of course it goes the other way too.

Some girls feel "left behind" if they are the only ones not having some breasts yet. You need to explain that everybody develops differently. It might be a great idea to have some of this conversation when her close friends are over. Sometimes girls feel more comfortable discussing things in a small group of people and friends who they trust.

Once you know her opinion, you will see how easy it is going to be to get a bra. You will have a good feeling whether she feels comfortable to get a training bra with you or whether she will be more comfortable and feel more grown up if you give her the money and let her and her friends do a little shopping together.

I would still recommend that you surprise her with a set of bras that suits your taste. Pick something cute! And then watch the laundry basket! If you did well, it’s going to land there. If you did not hit her taste, you will never see it again ;)

What size to get?

The best would be if you could take her to a department store and get her fitted. Please really make sure that nobody is making a big fuss about it. Imagine if the bra specialist says something awkward like, "You don’t need a bra yet, you are way too small!" You just want to know the number or anything that will encourage her that she is perfectly normal.

If you think this is not going to work, don’t do it! Don’t make her do anything that she is not comfortable with. So if she (or you are unsure), then get a bra based upon her dress size.

If your girl wears a girl size 10, then the band size of bra is 28. For size 12, then the band size is 30. Size 14 is band size 32 and size 16 is band size 34. These are only average numbers, but are a good guide for what size to get. Definitely make her try it on at home. If it doesn’t fit, just return it!

Happy bra shopping!

Still unsure how to say it right?

Here are two perfect books for your pre-teen young girl. Both of them are interesting and tastefully explaining what girls at age 9-12 should know.
